Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Flood Maps Could Change Your Insurance

FEMA is proposing changes to flood maps that may change Base Flood Elevations (BFE), base flood depth, Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries or zone designations, or regulatory floodways. If you own or live in properties in the listed areas, those map changes could change flood insurance rules and costs for your property. Pay attention to the proposed maps for your community because they determine how flood insurance and floodplain rules apply.

Community Rules Needed to Keep NFIP Insurance

The preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report form the basis of local floodplain management measures that a community must adopt or show are already in effect. A community needs those measures to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which affects whether residents can buy NFIP flood insurance. If a community does not adopt required measures, NFIP participation and insurance availability for local property owners could be affected.

You Can Review And Comment On Maps

FEMA is asking residents and communities in the listed areas to review the preliminary FIRM and FIS reports and provide comments. Submitting comments lets you raise concerns about changes to flood zones, water levels, or floodway boundaries that could affect local rules or insurance costs.
