Flood Map Changes Affect Insurance Costs

FEMA is proposing changes to flood maps that may modify Base Flood Elevations (BFE), Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries, zone designations, base flood depths, or regulatory floodways for specific communities. You (residents and property owners in affected communities) may see changes to local floodplain rules and to your flood insurance costs if your property's designation changes.

Communities Must Adopt NFIP Measures

The preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) are the basis for floodplain management measures communities must adopt or show are in effect. If your community does not adopt the required measures, it may affect the community's qualification to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which influences local insurance availability and regulation.
