Energy Project Expansion Sparks Environmental Comment Call

Published Date: 9/22/2025

Notice

Summary

Pine Prairie Energy Center wants to expand its power plant in Louisiana, and the government is asking the public to share their thoughts on how this might affect the environment. People have until October 17, 2025, to send in comments that will help shape the environmental review. This project could bring changes to the area, and your input will help decide if it moves forward smoothly and safely.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Landowners May Face Easement Talks and Condemnation

If you own land in the project area, Pine Prairie or its representatives may contact you to negotiate an easement to build and operate new pipeline and storage facilities. You are not required to sign an agreement, but if the Commission approves the project the company could seek condemnation (eminent domain) in court and a judge would determine compensation under state law.

Construction Will Disturb and Permanently Use Land

The project would disturb about 67.0 acres for construction, leave about 8.1 acres permanently for operation, and require new permanent easement for about 1.3 miles of pipeline. If your property is in the Evangeline Parish, Louisiana project area, these land use changes could affect how you use your property.

Historic-Property Consultation Under Section 106

The Commission is initiating consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act with State Historic Preservation Offices, Indian tribes, and the public to solicit views on potential effects to historic properties; the environmental document will document findings and the status of those consultations.
