Large Nevada Energy Storage Proposed

A pumped-storage energy project is proposed near Las Vegas, Nevada that would have two 225-megawatt reversible pump/turbines and an estimated annual generation of 1,170,000 megawatt hours when operating five days a week. The project would occupy Bureau of Land Management federal land and would connect via a new ~3.5-mile, 132-kilovolt transmission line to an existing Nevada Power Company substation.

Preliminary Permit Limits Land Work

FERC accepted a preliminary permit application that, if issued, would give the permit holder priority to file a license application during the permit term but would NOT authorize land-disturbing activities or entry onto others' lands without those owners' express permission. The application for that permit was filed March 11, 2025.

Public Filing Deadline and Participation Help

Members of the public, landowners, community organizations, Tribal members, and potential competing applicants have until 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on November 21, 2025 to file comments, motions to intervene, notices of intent, or competing applications for docket P-15398. The Commission’s Office of Public Participation can assist the public with filings and accessing information.
