The government is getting ready to check how this project might affect the environment and plans to finish this review by January 30, 2026. New International Pipeline Proposed in Maverick County

Nueva Era Dos proposes a roughly 3,603-foot, 36-inch natural gas transmission pipeline installed by horizontal directional drill in Maverick County, Texas, to provide a new international interconnection primarily designed to deliver about one billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to industrial customers in Mexico. The pipeline would be capable of both exporting and importing natural gas.

Environmental Review Timeline Set

FERC staff will issue an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Nueva Era Dos Pipeline Project on January 30, 2026, and the 90-day federal authorization decision deadline is April 30, 2026. Per the notice, the Commission's April 30, 2026 deadline applies to other federal agencies and state agencies acting under federally delegated authority for required permits and approvals.

EPA Requests Air, Water, Hazardous Analysis

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency asked that the EA address the project's effects on air quality and water quality, and also consider construction-related hazardous materials and waste. The notice says all substantive comments, including EPA's, will be addressed in the EA.
