Pipeline relocation to avoid coal-seam fires

Columbia Gas proposes a Line KA West and Line SM-123 Relocation Project in Mingo County, West Virginia to avoid underground coal seam fires and ground subsidence. The company would install about 4,300 feet of new 20-inch pipe and abandon about 1,326 feet of the existing 20-inch Line KA West, and install about 4,300 feet of new 24-inch pipe and abandon about 1,286 feet of the existing 24-inch Line SM-123. The project is estimated to cost approximately $51 million and is described as necessary to mitigate risk and ensure continued safe and reliable gas operations.

How to participate and protest by Jan 5, 2026

You can file a protest, a motion to intervene, or comments about the project by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on January 5, 2026, at no cost. Filings may be submitted via FERC's eFiling system or by mailing a paper copy to the Secretary; intervenors gain the right to request rehearing and to challenge Commission orders in the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal. If no protest is filed within the allowed time (or a protest is filed and then withdrawn within 30 days after the allowed time), the proposed activity will be deemed authorized effective the day after the protest period.
