Gov't Forgives Labeling Blip on 20 E-Motorcycles: No Fixes Required!

Published Date: 12/30/2025

Notice

Summary

ElectraMeccanica found a small tire info mistake on about 20 of their 2018 SOLO motorcycles. They told the government and asked to skip fixing it because it doesn’t affect safety. The government agreed—no recalls or costs for owners, and everything stays on the road as is!

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

No recall or free repair for owners

If you own one of about 20 ElectraMeccanica SOLO motorcycles (model year 2018) manufactured between March 1, 2018 and June 28, 2019, NHTSA found the missing rim manufacturer marking inconsequential to safety and granted ElectraMeccanica an exemption from the duty to notify owners or provide a free remedy under 49 U.S.C. 30118 and 30120. The manufacturer also states no remedy or reimbursement program is planned for the affected vehicles.

Dealers still barred from selling noncompliant bikes

If you are a vehicle distributor or dealer, you remain prohibited from selling, offering for sale, or introducing into interstate commerce any noncompliant ElectraMeccanica SOLO motorcycles that were under your control after ElectraMeccanica notified you the rim marking noncompliance existed. NHTSA's grant of the manufacturer's petition does not remove those statutory sales prohibitions.
