Pipeline expansion review hits fast-track timeline

Published Date: 4/9/2026

Notice

Summary

Texas Eastern Transmission wants to expand their pipeline to carry more natural gas—up to 125,000 dekatherms daily! The government is reviewing the environmental impact and plans to share their findings by June 15, 2026. If all goes well, final approvals should be wrapped up by September 13, 2026, affecting local communities and energy customers with potential changes in gas flow and infrastructure.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.

Major pipeline and compressor construction

Texas Eastern proposes to build about 10.2 miles of 36-inch pipeline, 1.6 miles of 16-inch lateral, a new Ridgeline Compressor Station with three compressor units of about 1,500 horsepower each, and a Ridgeland meter and regulator station in Madison County, Mississippi. If built, these aboveground and buried facilities would be located in and near private land in Madison County and could directly affect land use where they are sited.

Increase in pipeline capacity (125,000 Dth/d)

The project would add up to 125,000 dekatherms per day (Dth/d) of firm incremental natural gas transportation capacity on a segment of Texas Eastern's mainline. The increased capacity is intended to change gas flow and infrastructure availability in the area served.

Local environmental, safety, and property concerns

Respondents raised local concerns the EA will address, including public safety, effects on ecosystems, soil compaction, compensation, property values, water resources, aquatic species, and cultural resources. The EA will address all substantive comments on these topics.

Environmental review timeline and comment window

The Commission staff will issue an Environmental Assessment (EA) on June 15, 2026, the EA will be available for a 30-day public comment period, and federal agencies have a 90-day authorization decision deadline of September 13, 2026. Interested landowners and other parties can use that 30-day window to submit comments on the EA.
