Confidentiality Protections Changed

If you respond to the PSS, note that as of May 2025 NCES removed the Foundations of Evidence-Based Policymaking Act (CIPSEA) as a confidentiality assurance for PSS 2025-26; confidentiality assurances under the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002 (ESRA) remain in effect. NCES may consider restoring CIPSEA protections for future PSS collections.

Private Schools: Biennial Data Survey

If you are a private school or respond for a private school, the Department of Education will collect data for the Private School Universe Survey (PSS) for the 2025-26 and 2027-28 school years and for 2027-28 frame development activities. The Department estimates 32,550 annual responses and a total of 5,981 annual burden hours; responding is voluntary.
