Hopi Affiliation Confirmed

If you are the Hopi Tribe or a lineal descendant, Mesa Verde National Park has determined that the human remains (two long strands of human hair cordage and two corn husks with human hair matting) are affiliated with the Hopi Tribe. The items were collected in Canyon Diablo, Arizona in 1900 and donated to Mesa Verde National Park in 1963.

How and When to Request Repatriation

You (the Hopi Tribe, a lineal descendant, or another tribe/organization that can show cultural affiliation) may send a written request for repatriation to Kathryn Cook Collins at Mesa Verde National Park, P.O. Box 8, Mesa Verde National Park, CO 81330 or by email to [email protected]. Repatriation may occur on or after May 26, 2026, and if competing requests are received the Park will decide the most appropriate requestor (joint requests count as a single request).
