Summary

The FAA is updating safety rules for certain Boeing 757-200 and -300 airplanes to keep them flying safely. Airlines must update their maintenance plans with new, stricter checks starting June 3, 2026. This helps prevent problems but might mean some extra work and costs for operators.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

FAA Cost Estimate and Fleet Size

The FAA estimates this AD affects 156 U.S.-registered airplanes and that revising the maintenance program takes an average of 90 work-hours per operator, at $85 per hour, for an average total cost per operator of $7,650. On-condition reporting is estimated at 1 work-hour, or $85, per product.

Safety Action to Prevent Wing Cracking

The AD was issued to address fatigue cracking on the wing and winglet of Boeing 757-200 and -300 airplanes modified under STC ST01518SE. The rule, effective June 3, 2026, adds new or more restrictive airworthiness limitations to prevent cracks that could make a main structural element unable to sustain limit loads.

Maintenance Program Update Required

If you operate Boeing 757-200 or -300 airplanes that were modified under STC ST01518SE, you must revise your maintenance or inspection program within 30 days after June 3, 2026 to add new, more restrictive airworthiness limitations. The initial tasks must be done at the times in the Aviation Partners Boeing service documents or within 6 months or 500 flight cycles after the AD takes effect, whichever is later.
