Updated Instrument Procedures Take Effect

Starting April 29, 2026, the FAA is establishing, amending, suspending, or removing Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPs) and associated Takeoff Minimums and Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODPs) to keep flights safe under instrument flight rules. These changes apply at the airports listed in the amendatory provisions and pilots and airports must follow the new or revised procedures on their specified compliance dates.

Some Procedure Changes May Be Immediate

Certain SIAP, Takeoff Minimums, and ODP amendments may be made effective in less than 30 days or issued earlier as emergency actions (NOTAMs) when flight safety requires it. That means pilots and airports may need to adopt some procedure changes on short notice.

Specific Airport Procedures With Set Dates

The rule lists specific SIAP and Takeoff Minimums/ODP amendments that take effect on specified dates, for example procedures effective 11 June 2026 (San Diego MYF; Tracy TCY; Lexington LEX; etc.) and procedures effective 9 July 2026 (Platinum AK PTU/PAPM; Susanville CA SVE; Chicago ORD; and many others). Pilots operating at those airports must follow the newly amended procedures on those dates.

All SIAPs, Takeoff Minimums, and ODPs are available online free of charge from the National Flight Data Center (visit nfdc.faa.gov to register). Pilots and other users can obtain individual copies from the FAA Air Traffic Organization Service Area for the affected airport.
