Published Date: 4/30/2026
Notice
Summary
The FAA wants to keep collecting info from airlines about when pilots fly or work too long and don’t get enough rest. This helps spot problems with scheduling and keeps flights safe. Airlines and flight crews are affected, and the public can comment until June 29, 2026—no big costs, just paperwork to keep safety on track!

Mandatory Exceedance Reporting for Air Carriers
If you operate an air carrier certificated under 14 CFR part 121, you must report any time you exceed a maximum daily flight time or Flight Duty Period (FDP). Reports must include scheduled maximum and actual flight duty periods and flight times, basic flight details (city pairs, departure times, flight number), and the reason for the exceedance.
Paperwork Burden: Hours and Respondents
The FAA estimates this information collection covers 52 air carriers, with an estimated average burden of 12 hours per response and a total annual burden of 30,954 hours (OMB Control Number 2120-0751). This represents the FAA's estimate of the time carriers will spend on reporting and recordkeeping tied to the collection.
FRMS and Fatigue Training Reporting Requirements
If an air carrier chooses to develop a voluntary Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) under Sec. 117.7, the carrier must collect operation-specific data and will face annual recordkeeping and reporting obligations related to the FRMS. Also, carriers must develop and incorporate specific fatigue-training elements under Sec. 117.9 and submit the revised training program to the FAA for approval.
