Proposed Rule
Summary
The Coast Guard wants to create a new safety zone in Sandusky Bay during the annual IRONMAN 70.3 swim event to keep swimmers and boats safe. During the event, only authorized vessels can enter the area, helping prevent accidents and protect the environment. This rule will happen every July, and the public can share their thoughts by June 4, 2026.

Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.
One-day safety zone blocks Sandusky Bay
For one day in July each year, the Coast Guard would close a portion of Sandusky Bay so only authorized vessels may enter. The regulated area covers navigable waters extending 400 yards from shore between Jackson St. Pier and the Shelby Street Boat Launch; no person or vessel may enter without permission from the Captain of the Port, Sector Detroit.
Coast Guard: minimal impact on small entities
The Coast Guard certifies this proposed rule would not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities because it affects a small area for a few hours and allows vessels to request permission to enter. If your small business believes it would be significantly affected, you may submit comments explaining how and why.
