100‑Yard Safety Zone for June Race

During the annual Invitational Mills Trophy overnight sailboat race in June, persons and vessels must stay at least 100 yards away from the racing vessels unless they get permission from the Captain of the Port, Sector Detroit. The regulated area moves with the participants and covers the water from surface to bottom around the race courses listed in the rule.

Small Entities Won't Face Significant Impact

The Coast Guard certifies under the Regulatory Flexibility Act that this proposed rule would not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities. The agency notes vessel traffic can transit around the 100‑yard zones, the enforcement time is when traffic is normally low, it will issue Broadcast Notices to Mariners on VHF Channel 16, and vessels may request permission to enter the regulated area.
