Repatriation Available June 4, 2026
The University of Iowa says human remains representing at least one Native American individual (an older adult female) may be returned to a claimant on or after June 4, 2026. Lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations may request repatriation by showing, by a preponderance of the evidence, that they are a lineal descendant or have cultural affiliation; requests should be sent to Dr. Lara Noldner at the Office of the State Archaeologist Bioarchaeology Program, University of Iowa, 700 S Clinton Street, Iowa City, IA 52242, or by email at [email protected].
