Tribes May Reclaim Remains Starting June 11, 2026

If you are a member, tribal representative, or a proven lineal descendant of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe; Chickahominy Indian Tribe—Eastern Division; Nansemond Indian Nation; Pamunkey Indian Tribe; Rappahannock Tribe, Inc.; or the Upper Mattaponi Tribe, you may request repatriation of human remains Princeton University identified as at least one Native American individual removed from York County, Virginia in March 1907. Repatriation may occur on or after June 11, 2026; send written requests to Lauren Jakobsson, Cultural Property and Human Remains Repatriation Program, Princeton University Art Museum (Princeton, NJ 08544) or the email address listed in the notice; competing requests will be resolved by Princeton University and joint requests count as a single request.
