Temporary Closure of GIWW Near Florida Ave

You may not enter the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway from MM 6.5 East of Harvey Lock to MM 10 East of Harvey Lock (including the IHNC Lock) from May 5, 2026 until May 22, 2026 unless the Captain of the Port Sector New Orleans or their designated representative specifically authorizes you. To request permission, contact the Captain of the Port or their representative on VHF-FM channel 16 or by telephone at (504) 365-2545.

Safety and Environmental Protection from Sewage Leak

The Coast Guard established the safety zone because of an ongoing sewage leak at the Florida Avenue Bridge (29°58.860′ N, 90°01.300′ W) to protect people, vessels, and the marine environment during response operations. The Captain of the Port may adjust the size or enforcement period of the safety zone based on pollution response activity.
