Summary
Recognize and support International Transgender Day of Visibility. This concurrent resolution would honor transgender people's achievements and encourage public ceremonies and programs to raise awareness and celebrate leadership. It would note that the day was founded in 2009 and is meant to include a diverse transgender community. The text would document discrimination in employment, health care, housing, public services, education, and elevated risks of violence. It would highlight added burdens for transgender people who are people of color, have limited resources, are immigrants, live with disabilities, are justice involved, or are youth. The resolution would call attention to a wave of anti‑transgender bills targeting education, medical care, public accommodations, and identification documents. It would also cite growing political visibility, noting at least 36 states plus the District of Columbia with a transgender elected official and at least 23 openly transgender, gender‑nonconforming, or nonbinary state legislators, and it would celebrate historic firsts like Sarah McBride and Danica Roem.
