Sponsored By: Representative Rep. Ramirez, Delia C. [D-IL-3]
In Committee
Summary
Would expand VA grant authority to help homeless veterans get and coordinate benefits and to convert housing units into permanent homes. It adds two new grant activities. One lets grantees assist veterans in obtaining VA benefits and coordinating other federal, state, local, or nonprofit supports. The other explicitly allows converting existing facilities or units into permanent housing as an eligible facility-related activity.

More VA grants for homeless veterans
If enacted, the VA would be able to give more grants to groups that help homeless veterans. Grants could pay for help getting VA benefits and other Federal, State, local, or nonprofit benefits. Grants could also pay to convert housing units into permanent homes. The money would go to local service groups, not directly to individuals. These changes would start upon enactment, and the bill does not add new funding.
