Stops HUD from sharing records for immigration
HUD would be barred from sharing housing records for immigration enforcement, even if other laws usually allow it. This would apply no matter your immigration status. Records could be shared only if you give written consent in a language you understand. HUD would also be unable to force local public housing agencies to hand over these records. Within 90 days of enactment, HUD would report to Congress on securing records and how it would comply.
Defines who these privacy rules cover
The bill would define key terms, like what counts as immigration enforcement and a system of records. It would use existing law for the meaning of agency and public housing agency. These definitions would decide who is covered and which records are protected.
