Grants for grandfamily housing owners

This bill would require HUD to set up a grant program within 180 days of enactment for owners of intergenerational dwelling units. Owners would apply to HUD in the form and with the information the Secretary requires. Grants could pay for a service coordinator to provide tutoring, health services, afterschool care, age-appropriate activities, and to coordinate with local kinship navigator programs. Grants could also fund outreach to nearby grandfamilies, planning and delivering services, and retrofitting or maintaining spaces on the property. Outreach would need periodic information and events, and should coordinate with a local kinship navigator program when possible. The bill would authorize "such sums as may be necessary" for fiscal years 2026 through 2030 to carry out the program. The program would have to follow the Fair Housing Act rules. The bill would also add this program to the list of programs referenced in the Violence Against Women Act and would require HUD to report to Congress within two years on the program's effectiveness and any recommended changes if enacted.
