Sponsored By: Representative Menendez
Introduced
Summary
This bill would increase transparency by requiring regular public federal reports on data centers' water use, pollution, and energy impacts. EPA would provide quarterly reports on water use, reuse, effects on local water systems, pollutants, and greenhouse gas emissions, while the Energy Information Administration would report every six months on facility-level energy use and related household energy indicators.

- Families: Household energy use and cost trends would be tracked and reported every 6 months, so residents would get clearer data on how data center energy use may relate to their bills.
- Local communities and utilities: EPA reports would show water consumption, reuse rates, effects on potable water availability, any utility service disruptions, changes in residential water rates, and pollutant discharges.
- Data center monitoring and planning: Agencies would publish counts of newly operating data centers and state-by-state energy consumption every 6 months to inform regulators and planners.
