- Customers and households: People, including LGBTQ individuals, would gain explicit federal protection when accessing stores, online retailers, trains, buses, taxis, airlines, health care providers, shelters, banks, salons, food banks, and funeral services.
- Businesses and service providers: A wide range of establishments that affect commerce would be covered and could face legal claims for refusing service based on sex or sexual orientation. Definitions in the bill clarify what counts as sex and related conditions.
- Religious claims: The bill would prevent the Religious Freedom Restoration Act from being used as a defense to challenge enforcement of these nondiscrimination rules.

More protections for customers at businesses
If enacted, this bill would add sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity, to public-accommodation protections. You would not be denied access to restrooms, locker rooms, or dressing rooms that match your gender identity. It would cover more businesses, like online sellers, salons, banks, food banks, shelters, and transport services. Existing legal claims and remedies would be preserved. The bill would bar using the Religious Freedom Restoration Act as a defense to Title II enforcement. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
