Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Higher penalties for federal program fraud
If enacted, the bill would raise criminal penalties for theft, embezzlement, or bribery involving programs that get Federal funds. People convicted could face up to 20 years in prison, instead of 10. Fines would be the larger of $250,000 or twice the value of the property or things of value tied to the offense. These changes would apply to offenses prosecuted under the existing statute and would take effect upon enactment.
Annual independent audits for summer meals
If enacted, the bill would require every service institution that runs the Summer Food Service Program to get an annual audit of its accounts and records. A third-party auditor must perform the audit and send the results directly to the Secretary. The auditor may not be a service institution or a sponsor organization. This requirement would take effect upon enactment.
