Grants for K-12 financial education

If enacted, the bill would create a competitive federal grant program to help State educational agencies add financial literacy to public elementary and secondary schools. The Secretary would award grants to states for up to four years. States could use up to 10% of each grant for state-level work like curriculum, guidance, technical help, or evaluation. The rest would be given as subgrants to local school districts, which would use funds for school-based financial literacy classes (including personal credit, student loans, and financial aid), partnerships with community groups (including after-school programs), and teacher training. States would have to provide non-Federal matching funds equal to 25% of each grant, and grant funds would have to supplement, not replace, other Federal or State funds. The bill would authorize such sums as may be necessary for fiscal year 2026 and the four following years.
