Congress must buy union-made vehicles

This bill would bar using funds from two congressional accounts to buy or lease motor vehicles. Those accounts are the Members' Representational Allowance and the Senators' Official Personnel and Office Expense Account. A vehicle would qualify only if its final assembly place is in the United States (49 U.S.C. 32304). A vehicle would also qualify only if it was assembled by employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The rule would take effect on October 1, 2026. If enacted, this would push Congress toward U.S.-assembled, union-made vehicles and could help union auto workers and qualifying manufacturers. It would also limit which vehicles congressional offices can choose.
