Limits on immigration arrests before elections

This bill would bar immigration officers from most arrests or deportations during the 4 weeks before a federal election. Exceptions: officers would be allowed to act when an operation is based on particularized criminal probable cause tied to a specific individual. Another exception is when an operation is necessary to prevent imminent death or serious bodily injury. The bill would also add the term "immigration officer" (as defined in section 101 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. 1101) into 18 U.S.C. 593 so that that statute's textual coverage includes immigration officers.
