Protecting children's health from extreme weather. This resolution would express the sense that adaptations and protections must be developed and deployed rapidly and equitably to address the physical and mental health needs of babies, children, adolescents, and their families.

  • Families and children would get child-specific supports during emergencies, including access to diapers, formula, nursing spaces, infant feeding kits, and child-sized masks.
  • Schools and child care providers would be urged to improve guidance, update physical and technological infrastructure, and install better air filtration to handle extreme heat, wildfire smoke, and flooding.
  • Health professionals, educators, and caregivers would be encouraged to receive training on children's unique vulnerabilities, heat exposure risks, and first-aid measures for hyperthermia.
  • Communities and emergency planners would be pushed to provide accurate, timely, and language-accessible alerts, mutual aid and caregiver support, shaded green space, child-friendly cooling centers and clean rooms, and hydration or refill stations.
