The resolution would note the group's 1913 founding by 22 college women at Howard University, its status as the largest African-American Greek-letter sorority with more than 350,000 members and over 1,050 chapters worldwide, its Five-Point Program Thrust (economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement), signature initiatives like Financial Fortitude and the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, its Mary Help of the Sick Mission Hospital in Thika, Kenya, and its special consultative status at the United Nations.
