Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
More implant hearing coverage
If enacted, this bill would require group and individual health plans to cover auditory implant devices and external sound processors for qualifying individuals. Plans would also have to cover tests, surgery, aural rehabilitation, maintenance, repairs, adhesive adapters, and softband headbands. Devices and processors would be upgraded or replaced at least once every 5 years. Plans could not charge higher cost-sharing or apply stricter visit or benefit limits just for these items. Coverage would begin for plan years starting on or after January 1, 2026.
Grandfathered plan rule update
This bill would amend ACA grandfathered-plan rules so the new hearing-device coverage counts when deciding if a plan keeps grandfathered status. It would add Section 2799A-11 to the list of items that affect grandfathering. The change would take effect for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2026.
