Pilots could use digital certificates
If enacted, this bill would let an individual issued an airman certificate (including medical certificates) show it to an FAA inspector as either a physical card or a digital certificate. The digital certificate would have to be issued by the FAA Administrator and meet authentication and verification rules. It could be stored on your electronic device or, where there is enough connectivity, in a cloud-based system. The FAA Administrator would have to issue a final rule by November 30, 2028, updating 14 C.F.R. parts 61, 63, 65, 67, and 107 and related guidance to implement these changes.
