Remote dispensing sites and their supervising pharmacies must keep at least one pharmacist for every six combined interns, licensed technicians, and technicians in training. Do not count cashiers. If no pharmacist is on site at a remote facility, it must have at least one licensed technician with 2,000 hours of supervised experience, national certification, and good standing; a pharmacist at the supervising pharmacy must oversee the site, and electronic supervision is allowed. In a hospital or clinic, the technician must also have an accredited technician program diploma or have earned the 2,000 hours before July 1, 2017. A technician in training cannot work at a remote site unless a pharmacist is present. The board will set continuing education rules for technicians at remote sites without a pharmacist.
Indiana licenses pharmacists by endorsement if you are already licensed in another state with similar standards. You must be registered and approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). You must have a U.S. ACPE‑accredited or Canadian‑accredited degree, or provide academic verification and the FPGEC for foreign degrees. You must also pass a board exam on federal and Indiana pharmacy laws and rules. This gives qualified out‑of‑state and foreign‑educated pharmacists a path to practice in Indiana.
To register as a pharmacist intern, you must show active enrollment in an ACPE‑accredited pharmacy school or hold the FPGEC certificate, or be a qualified applicant awaiting the licensure exam. The registration lasts 1 year and can be renewed until the state’s set expiration date. Applications and renewals must include the required fee and proof of enrollment or the FPGEC. For first-time licensure, you must be 18 or older, have no conviction that directly affects safe practice, hold a professional pharmacy degree from a U.S. ACPE‑accredited or Canadian‑accredited program (foreign degrees need academic verification and the FPGEC), complete a board‑approved intern program, and pass the NAPLEX. Canadian graduates must get the FPGEC before taking the board’s required exam.
