Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.
Stronger privacy and rules for investigators
If you are a licensed professional investigator or investigative assistant, your home address and phone are confidential. They can be shared only with your written consent, by court order, for criminal justice, or for law‑enforcement permitting. The chief, with the board’s advice, can set conduct and training rules, and these count as routine technical rules. The law also repeals several older sections to streamline how this profession is regulated.
Inactive state boards removed from law
The law deletes three listings for inactive boards and commissions from state law. This clean‑up removes those subsections from Title 5. It mainly affects state administration and does not change your taxes or benefits. No effective dates or funding amounts are listed in these repeal items.
Education data updates and task force ended
The law ends the State Education and Employment Outcomes Task Force and updates the chapter title to focus on the database. The Department of Labor, in consultation with the Department of Education and the task force, must update the educational outcome database by January 1, 2022 and every two years after. The database tracks program completion, graduation, credentials, and job and earnings results for Maine college graduates over time. The Legislature also cuts $2,500 from the task force budget in FY 2026–27 ($880 pay, $1,620 other). This is an administrative change and does not change student aid or your taxes.
