2026 school tax rate for nonhomesteads

For the 2026 fiscal year, the statewide nonhomestead education tax rate is $1.703 per $100 of equalized education property value. This covers second homes, rentals, and business properties. The rate takes effect July 1, 2025 and applies only for fiscal year 2026. Multiply your property's equalized education value by this rate to estimate your school tax.

2026 rules for homestead school taxes

For the 2026 fiscal year, Vermont sets two homestead tax numbers. The property dollar equivalent yield is $8,596. The income dollar equivalent yield is $12,172. Towns also change how they equalize housesite value: grand list value is divided by the town’s common level of appraisal and by the statewide adjustment. These rules start July 1, 2025 and apply only for the 2026 fiscal year. They can raise or lower a homeowner’s bill depending on local appraisals and income.
