State identifies public land for housing
Through 2030, each agency head must list every parcel it owns that meets all screening rules set by the Department of Housing and Community Development for Executive Order 06-25. Agencies report these parcels to the Department as part of the State inventory. By January 15 of each legislative session through 2031, the Commissioner of Housing and Community Development sends the House Committee on Corrections and Institutions and the Senate Committee on Institutions the full list, names which sites may work for housing, and explains each decision.
State tracks unused buildings and land
The Commissioner of Buildings and General Services keeps a list of all State-owned and leased buildings and land. The list is updated every year and is used to assign space and set uses. When requested, agency heads send annual inventories in the format the Commissioner sets. Reports must show square feet in use, not in use, storage, and unfinished space; rent and operations cost per square foot; and funding sources, naming any act and section. Agencies must also mark vacant buildings and land not needed for State purposes. By January 15 of each new biennium, the Commissioner sends the inventory to the House Committee on Corrections and Institutions and the Senate Committee on Institutions.
