Summary

The Secretary of Defense can name some defense intelligence jobs as Intelligence Senior Level. To do that, the job must be paid above GS–15, not meet the rules for the Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service, and have only minimal supervisory duties. The Secretary must follow regulations to make these designations. The President, after the Secretary’s recommendation, may give employees in those jobs a rank under 5 U.S.C. 4507a, following that law.
