Government vehicles and certain military and civilian personnel (and their dependents) can be charged tolls to cross the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, but any tolls for them cannot be higher than those charged for similar traffic. Under section 1006 of this title, military, Coast Guard, and naval personnel, civilian employees of the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard, and National Ocean Survey staff may cross the bridge without paying tolls when on official duty, and their vehicles are included. The same people and their dependents who live or work on Yerba Buena Island or Treasure Island, or are on a vessel docked there, may also cross to or from those islands without paying tolls.
