Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XLIV— - VIRGIN ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK › § 398c
Revises the Virgin Islands National Park boundaries to add nearby lands, submerged lands, and waters around the island of Saint John and Hassel Island in Saint Thomas Harbor, while respecting any valid existing legal rights. The added offshore areas are described in the law by specific map points and distances and total approximately 4,100 acres for the north offshore area and approximately 1,550 acres for the south offshore area. Adds Hassel Island, about 135 acres, plus nearby submerged lands and waters the Secretary of the Interior thinks are appropriate, but the park lines around Hassel Island cannot go farther than 100 yards from the island’s mean high water mark. All lands and waters added this way will be managed by the Secretary of the Interior under the National Park Service law of August 25, 1916.
