Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XLVII— - MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK › § 404d
The Secretary of the Interior can accept land given for free inside the Mammoth Cave National Park area. If the land comes with leases made as part of the sale, those leases must be shown to and approved by the Secretary first. Leases tied to the original owner cannot last longer than that owner’s lifetime. The Secretary can also lease park land to people or to schools, churches, companies, groups, or partnerships that already used the land. Leases to individuals can run only for their lifetimes. Leases to others can run up to 20 years and may be renewed if the Secretary agrees. The Secretary may also take land with reserved rights-of-way and easements.
