Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LII— - ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK › § 408c
The Secretary of the Interior may accept land given free to the United States inside the Isle Royale National Park area. He can take land that has leases attached from when it was bought to be donated, but those leases cannot last longer than the life of the original owner(s). Any such leases and their terms must be submitted to and approved by the Secretary. He may also accept land with reserved rights-of-way or easements. The Secretary may lease park land to people or organizations who already occupied it, including individuals, schools, churches, private companies, associations, and partnerships. Leases for individuals cannot exceed that person’s lifetime. Leases for other entities cannot exceed 20 years and may be renewed only if the Secretary allows them. Leases are allowed only if the Secretary finds they do not conflict with the reasons the land was acquired for the park.
