The Secretary of the Interior must set up and run ten mining experiment stations and seven mine safety stations in important mining areas of the United States and the Territory of Alaska, if Congress provides money for staff and other costs. They will be part of the Bureau of Mines and follow the title’s rules. Their job is to study and share information to make mining, quarrying, metallurgical, and other mineral industries safer, reduce waste, and help the industries improve. No more than three of these stations can be started in any one fiscal year with the funds provided.
