Title 37 › Chapter CHAPTER 8— - TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITIES—NEW LAW › § 454
The Secretary of Defense may run pilot programs to try new travel and transportation rules for people who travel for the Department of Defense. The tests must aim to save money or make travel more efficient. They can try new ways to pay for or handle travel, ways to cut how much travel is needed, or ways to reduce travel’s environmental impact. No more than three pilots can run at once. Each pilot can last up to four years and only happens if money is provided. The Secretary must tell the congressional defense committees about a pilot 30 days before it starts (purpose, length, and expected savings) and report results and any recommended actions within 60 days after it ends. "Congressional defense committees" means the committees named in 10 U.S.C. 101(a)(16).
