Title 38 › Part PART II— - GENERAL BENEFITS › Chapter CHAPTER 17— - HOSPITAL, NURSING HOME, DOMICILIARY, AND MEDICAL CARE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER VIII— - HEALTH CARE OF PERSONS OTHER THAN VETERANS › § 1782
The Secretary must provide consultations, professional counseling, marriage and family counseling, training, and other mental health services to people who are helping a veteran when the veteran is getting treatment for a service‑connected disability under section 1710(a)(1) or (2) of this title. The Secretary can choose to provide the same kinds of services when a veteran is getting treatment for a non‑service‑connected disability under section 1710(a)(1), (2), or (3) of this title. These services can go to three kinds of people: the veteran’s immediate family or legal guardian; a family caregiver of an eligible veteran or a caregiver of a covered veteran (as defined in section 1720G); or a person in whose household the veteran says they plan to live. The services may also include travel and incidental expenses for those people under the terms of section 111 when the veteran is getting care for a service‑connected disability or when a dependent or survivor is getting care under the last sentence of section 1783(b) of this title.
