Title 38 › Part PART II— - GENERAL BENEFITS › Chapter CHAPTER 18— - BENEFITS FOR CHILDREN OF VIETNAM VETERANS AND CERTAIN OTHER VETERANS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - CHILDREN OF CERTAIN KOREA AND THAILAND SERVICE VETERANS BORN WITH SPINA BIFIDA › § 1821
The Secretary can give a child of a veteran who served in or near the Korean DMZ and who has spina bifida the same health care, job training, rehab, and money that children of Vietnam veterans with spina bifida get. This applies to all kinds of spina bifida except spina bifida occulta. A "veteran of covered service in Korea" must have served on active military, naval, or air duty in or near the Korean DMZ from September 1, 1967, to August 31, 1971, and be found to have been exposed to a herbicide agent during that service (both determinations made by the Secretary with the Secretary of Defense). A "herbicide agent" is a chemical in a herbicide used to support U.S. and allied military operations in or near the DMZ during that same period, as determined by the Secretary with the Secretary of Defense.
