Summary

Each Corps member must get between three and six weeks of training. The training uses a broad service-learning course to teach teamwork, discipline, leadership, work habits, citizenship, and physical fitness. When possible, members should be trained in CPR, first aid, and other disaster-preparedness and response skills. Year-round members must also get advanced, project-specific training for work like energy or environmental projects, infrastructure repair, community development, or disaster response. Summer members do not get that advanced training but may get other training if possible. Designated trainers must give initial, advanced, and ongoing training. Trainers can teach directly or hire schools, job programs, youth groups, or other experts. Training can happen at Department of Defense or National Guard facilities used by the program.
