Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 129— - NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE STATE GRANT PROGRAM › § 12618
The Director must provide benefits to members of the National Civilian Community Corps. Members must get a living allowance while they train or work on projects. That allowance can be up to 100 percent of the poverty line for a family of two, as defined by the Office of Management and Budget and updated each year under section 9902(2). Members can also get things like travel and personal expense allowances, housing, meals, transport, equipment, uniforms, supplies, and other services the Director finds appropriate. The Director may also provide health care, child care, counseling, and other support services. When a member finishes their agreed service, they must choose either the national service educational award described in division D or a cash alternative. To get the educational award, the member must serve in an approved national service position and meet the eligibility rules in section 12602. If a member is not eligible for that award, the Director may give a suitable alternative benefit.
