Summary

Lists who counts as an eligible entity and gives short meanings for several energy terms. An eligible entity is one of these: an institution of higher education; a National Laboratory; a Federal research agency; a State research agency; a nonprofit research organization; or an industrial company (or a group of such companies). An institution of higher education is either what section 1001(a) of title 20 describes or a postsecondary vocational institution as in section 1002(c) of title 20. Marine energy is power from waves, tides and currents, flowing water in rivers or channels, differences in saltiness or pressure, and temperature differences (including ocean thermal). National Laboratory and microgrid are defined in sections 15801(3) and 17231 of this title. Water power means hydropower, including conduit power, pumped storage, and marine energy technologies.
