The rules in sections 441 and 442 and in subchapter XIV are made to apply to lands in the Flathead irrigation project in the former Flathead Indian Reservation, Montana. Those lands are otherwise governed by the Act of Congress approved April 23, 1904 (Thirty-third Statutes at Large, page 302), as amended May 29, 1908 (Thirty-fifth Statutes at Large, page 448). The United States keeps a lien (a legal claim) on any land patented under section 542 that covers all sums due or to become due because of the Indian price of the land.
