A preference eligible person who was separated or furloughed for reasons other than misconduct can ask to have their name put on hiring registers and lists for any job they are qualified for, in the order set by section 3313. This applies to registers kept by the Office of Personnel Management, Executive agencies, or the government of the District of Columbia. The Office of Personnel Management may also decide that someone separated or furloughed without pay under section 7512 gets the same placement.
